Italian football, including Juventus, stands at a crucial crossroads. Ezio Simonelli, President of Lega Serie A, has urged politicians to transform the current deep crisis into a tangible opportunity for revitalization. The need to modernize infrastructure, especially stadiums, emerges as an absolute priority for the future of Serie A. The situation is alarming: the Nazionale has failed to qualify for three consecutive World Cup editions, and no Italian clubs reached the semi-finals of UEFA tournaments this season. Simonelli presented the case to the Commission for Culture, emphasizing the urgency of reforms and the search for a new FIGC President. Simonelli highlighted how, for the top five European leagues, TV rights revenue has stagnated, while income from stadiums has climbed significantly. This gap is particularly evident in Italy, where Serie A stadiums are among the oldest in Europe. The comparison is stark: Real Madrid's new Bernabeu generates €250 million, compared to San Siro's €70 million, which is currently the best-performing Italian stadium in terms of income. This 350 percent difference demonstrates the untapped potential and the urgent need for investment. President Simonelli reiterated that the crisis is not merely the result of two missed penalties, but a structural issue requiring a joint commitment. Transforming this challenge into an opportunity for the revitalization of Italian football, with modern and functional stadiums, is the primary goal to restore Serie A to its past glories.
